Birth Center
The Birth Center cares for both normal and high-risk obstetric patients. There are 26 LDRP’s where patients have a private room for labor, delivery and post partum care. All equipment needed for delivery is contained in each room. Infants are cared for at delivery by a mother-baby nurse and a neonatologist, if needed. Unless special care is indicated, the infant stays at the mother’s bed side. While in active labor, the mother is attended by a labor RN on a one-to-one (or one-to-two) basis. After delivery, mom and baby are cared for by a mother-baby RN who has four “couplets.” Each room is fully equipped with fetal monitoring, computer, maternal and neonatal resuscitation equipment.
The Birth Center also has an obstetric transport team of specially trained OB nurses to transport high-risk moms from any hospital in our region.
There is a 12-bed Antenatal unit for the care of undelivered moms who are having complications of pregnancy, ranging from hyperemesis to preterm labor, diabetic control to AP bleeding, and asthma to cardiac complications. When census allows, the unit also cares for gynecological surgical patients. Nurse to patient ratio is usually 1:4. These rooms are also equipped for delivery if necessary.
