Areas of Specialty

Pediatrics

.Pediatrics provides all levels of care to children between the ages of newborn and 18 years. The unit provides services for medical, surgical, orthopedics and oncology as well as gastro-enterology and rehabilitation.

Patients are cared for in a family-centered unit equipped with private rooms, TV’s, and VCR’s. Each room also has a “student” desk where our patients can continue their school tasks if appropriate. Pediatrics provides services in general pediatrics, where a team approach to care is utilized and also provides care in the Intermediate and Intensive Care Units. In these areas, primary nursing is utilized, where RN to patient ratio varies from 1:1 to 1:3. Telemetry is available in all areas on pediatrics. Most of the RN’s on this unit are chemo certified and PALS certified. St. John’s has a pediatric transport team. Patient census is seasonal with winter as the busiest time.
