Huff and Puff®: The Children's Asthma Program helps children ages 4-8 and their parents learn how to prevent and control asthma symptoms. Through games, music, workbook exercises and the animated, Muppet-like characters Huff and Puff, children and parents have fun while learning essential asthma management skills.

Only parents attend the first session. Topics include:

  • How asthma affects the bronchial tubes
  • Medications ans proper use of inhaled medicines
  • Asthma prevention
  • Asthma signals and peak flow meters
  • Asthma triggers
  • The importance of an asthma control plan
Children and parents attend the following two sessions. Topics include:
  • Breathing and asthma
  • How to use the Three-Step Plan to control signals
  • Asthma triggers
  • Asthma warning signals
  • Peak flow meters
  • How to prevent asthma signals
Participants receive a workbook that personalizes learning and a CD with songs that reinforce key asthma management skills.

Location: Center for Living classroom

Fee: No charge, due to a generous grant from the Kohl's for Kids program
