Nearly 50 pediatric specialists and surgeons
are part of the medical team. They provide care in the areas of hematology-oncology, cardiology, critical care,
behavioral pediatrics, gastroenterology, genetics, infectious diseases, neonatology, nephrology, neurology,
pulmonology, rehabilitation, and various pediatric surgical areas. The
Southern Illinois University (SIU) School of Medicine
and community physicians partner with St. John’s to provide this care.
We also have child life specialists who use medical play and
teaching to help young patients and their families cope with hospitalization.
Surgical Discovery tours help ease the apprehension children may feel before surgery.
