Being at the hospital can be kind of hard at times; because we know this we have different activities to help make the hospital a better place to be. They are:
- Massage Therapy: A massage therapist comes twice a week. While she is here, she can give you a foot massage, a back massage, or even a hand massage.
- Expressive Arts: Once a month, a group of Samaritans (volunteers) come and conduct art activities. These art activities can be done in either the playroom or in your room.
- Pet Therapy: Twice a month a group of Samaritans bring their specially trained dogs. These dogs just love to play with you.
- The Starlight Magician: Once a month, a magician comes and does magic tricks. He comes on behalf of an organization called the Starlight-Starbright Foundation. This Foundation provides videos and video games to children’s hospitals like St. John’s.
- Ronald McDonald: Ronald McDonald, one of St. John's good friends, comes and visits with you. While he is here, he shares his magic tricks, takes pictures with you and can even sign autographs.
- Special Visitors: Sometimes when you come to the hospital you will see people reading a story with the other children, doing an art activity, or bringing presents. These people are called our Special Visitors.
- The Literacy Program: We know how important books and reading are, so with help from our friends at Ronald McDonald House, Barnes and Noble, and many other special people, we have a book cart that is brought to your room so you can pick a book to keep.
