Radiothon raises $123,000 for sick kids
Springfield – The first 103.7 WDBR Cares for Kids Radiothon, presented by CEFCU, raised $123,386 to benefit St. John’s Children’s Hospital.
The radiothon was held November 16 - 18 with WDBR radio personalities Dave Daniels and
Dina Michaels broadcasting live from the Children’s Hospital in the Carol Jo Vecchie Women
and Children’s Center. For more than 30 hours, listeners heard stories of hope and courage
from families that have been helped by St. John’s Children’s Hospital and its partner,
SIU School of Medicine. Physicians and staff talked about the technology and services
available at St. John’s Children’s Hospital.
Farah Salim, Coordinator of Children’s Miracle Network, which raises funds on
behalf of St. John’s Children’s Hospital, called the radiothon an overwhelming success.
“We received donations from hundreds of people who called or visited the broadcast, as
well as individuals and local businesses that participated in various fundraisers held
this fall.” Children’s Miracle Network raises money for children’s programs, equipment
and research at St. John’s Children’s Hospital and SIU School of Medicine. All money
raised locally on behalf of CMN stays in the community.
