Radiothon raises nearly $95,000 for St. John’s Children’s Hospital

SPRINGFIELD – The second annual WDBR Cares for Kids Radiothon presented by CEFCU
raised more than $94,630 for pediatric programs and services at St. John’s Children’s
Hospital in partnership with SIU School of Medicine. All money raised locally stays in the community
to fund items and services ranging from life-saving equipment for premature infants to research
studies, educational materials for parents and patient comfort measures such as massage therapy.

More than 30 families, doctors, nurses and staff shared their stories of medical miracles
throughout the three-day radiothon. Listeners heard from Lydia Hannah, Illinois’ 2007
Children’s Miracle Network Champion, who is undergoing treatment for her second bout with
cancer. They also learned about twins diagnosed with cerebral palsy who are thriving with the
help of therapy and four-year-old Haley who was born with a tumor three times the size of her head.
Haley not only survived, but she is able to walk, talk, see and hear.

The 2007 Radiothon was a success thanks to the many sponsors, including CEFCU, Illini Bank,
Carpenter’s Local #16, Crane Creek Golf Course, Panera Bread, True Colors Floral Artistry, Kicks,
Hill Prairie Winery, Gold’s Gym and All That Glimmers, as well as those who volunteered to
staff the phone bank.

St. John's Children’s Hospital combines the faculty resources of SIU School of Medicine with
the pediatric facilities and services of St. John’s Hospital. It was recognized for membership in
October 2005 by the National Association for Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions
(NACHRI). The Children’s Hospital Web site is www.sjchildrens.org
