Springfield, IL. – Children (and dogs) can debut their Halloween costumes and win prizes at this year's "Halloween at the Market" by visiting the Springfield Moms Kids' Activity Area on Saturday, October 25.
Halloween at the Market, sponsored by Downtown Springfield Inc. and St. John's Children's Hospital, will take place on Adams Street between 3rd and 5th streets. Registration for the costume contest begins at 10 a.m. at the St. John’s tent located on the corner of 4th & Adams. The contest is for children ages 0 – 12. Prizes will be awarded in the following age categories: 0 – 2; 3 – 6; and 7 – 12.
Dave Daniels, WDBR; Bob Murray, WTAX; and Kimberly Pitchford, RN, from St. John's Children's Hospital will judge the contestants at 11 a.m.
St. John's Children's Hospital has donated gifts cards to Toys R Us for the winners. First place in each category receives a $40 gift card. Second place winners will receive a $20 gift card and 3rd place winners will receive a $15 gift card.
“This is our 4th year hosting the Kids Costume Contest, and it's one of our most popular events," says Kim Little, founder and president of Springfield Moms. "We are always amazed at the creativity and enthusiasm shown by families with their costumes. It is such a fun morning for all ages – there's music, cooking demonstrations, local produce available for purchase, and kids can enjoy the free crafts and activities at our Kids' Area."
The Kids' Area is open from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. There will be free goody bags for parents, free crafts and a visit from Jewel the Pirate for the kids. The Springfield Youth Performance Group will perform at 10 a.m.
The Canine Costume contest will begin at noon. It is sponsored by the Illinois Humane Society. Registration for the canine contest starts at 11 a.m. next to the main stage.
"We encourage everyone to 'test drive' those Halloween costumes and come out for a fun morning at the Market," says Little. "We can't wait to see this year's contest entries!"
