Potential benefits of a Parish Nursing Health Ministry

Parish nurses:

  • Raise awareness of the spiritual dimension of healing and wholeness.
  • Lend extra hands, ears and hearts to the pastor with their caring presence.
  • Promote the health and wellness of the congregation (mind, body and spirit).
  • Improve access to shared church and community services.
  • Enhance opportunities for faith-sharing.
  • Empower people to assume a proactive stance in promoting healthy lifestyles.
  • Enhance the faith community’s understanding of its faith traditions and perspectives in relation to health, healing and wholeness.

Programs initiated by the parish nurse are usually determined after an assessment of the needs and concerns of the congregation.
