Role of the Parish Nurse

     

    Blood Pressure

    Creating a Caring Community

    • Parish Nursing is a unique blend of nursing and ministry. Parish Nurses engage in
      spiritual nurturing. They help people access what is meaningful in their life.
    • Parish Nurses serve as health educators and provide a variety of educational
      activities for individuals of all ages with emphasis on disease prevention and wellness.
    • Parish Nurses serve as personal health counselors discussing health issues and problems
      with individuals and making home, hospital and nursing home visits as needed.
    • Parish Nurses are health advocates helping individuals make decisions about their health
      care.
    • Parish Nurses function as a referral agent within the faith community and the local
      community. Parish Nurses help individuals and families gain access to needed services.

  • Parish Nurses may use volunteers to help with the parish nurse ministry.
  • Parish Nurses identify when support groups are needed. They may initiate a faith-based
    support group, refer to an existing support group or participate in a self-help group.
  • Parish Nurses function as part of a ministerial team within their faith community.
