Erica Nelson, MD Erica Nelson, MD, is an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology with interests in urogynecology, pelvic floor disorders and general gynecologic disorders. Her research interests include medical education and she has worked closely with the students and residents of the SIU School of Medicine. Dr. Nelson has served as clerkship director from 2000-2008. Currently, Dr. Nelson serves as residency program director in the department of obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Nelson has presented “Minimally Invasive Hysterectomies Using Robotics” at SIU School of Medicine “Lunch with the Doctor” (May, 2007). She has also been interviewed by the local television station regarding robotic surgeries. Dr. Nelson is certified in robotic surgery and has performed robotic procedures (hysterectomy, myomectomy, sacral colpexy) since April 2006. Dr. Nelson received her bachelor’s degree from Pomona College in Claremont, California and obtained her medical degree from the University of Vermont in Burlington. Her residency in obstetrics and gynecology was completed at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon after a year of general surgery internship. Dr. Nelson is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a member of several medical societies both locally and nationally. These societies include American Urogynecologic Society, Central Obstetrics and Gynecology, American Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Illinois State Medical Society and Sangamon County Medical Society. |
