Thomas Tarter, MD Dr. Thomas Tarter is full-time faculty and attending physician with the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. He is an associate professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Urology, and is the director of Urologic Oncology, SimmonsCooper Cancer Institute. Dr. Tarter received his medical degree from Albany Medical College in New York, after which he completed a residency program at University of Southern California Medical Center, Los Angeles. Prior to medical school, Dr. Tarter earned a Ph.D. in anatomy from Oregon Health Sciences University School of Medicine, Portland. He then continued his studies as a Fellow-In-Residence at The Population Council, Center for Biomedical Research, Rockefeller University, New York City. Dr. Tarter has practiced in central Illinois since 1996. He is an active member of the Society of Urologic Oncology and has clinical practices in urologic oncology and urologic surgery. He has an established reputation for bladder reconstruction after bladder cancer surgery. In addition to seeing patients at St. John's Pavilion, Dr. Tarter sees patients at the Prostate Center at SIU which he opened in early 2003. He also serves the people of southern Illinois by conducting a clinic in Marion several times a year. |
