Meet Mylas: A Miracle Baby from the HSHS St. John’s Hospital NICU

We often find ourselves feeling inspired by our patients. Meet Mylas, a little guy who has overcome some incredible obstacles in his short time so far in this world. Sadly, his mother was killed last summer in a drive-by shooting in Springfield.

Baby Mylas spent the first eight months of his life at HSHS St. John’s Children’s Hospital in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). He had several surgeries at St. John’s during that time and, in the process, captured the hearts of countless caretakers and colleagues at our hospital.

On February 14, 2018, St. John’s Hospital invited all the first responders and medical colleagues who have been part of Mylas’ journey to our hospital for a reception. While Mylas wasn’t able to attend the event in person, he was certainly there in spirit!

Today Mylas is just shy of 10 months old and lives at home with his legal guardian and biological aunt, Sanatra. We hope you will also be inspired by them as you watch this video. Please keep this sweet baby in your thoughts and prayers.
