Tele-ICU services

In the intensive care unit (ICU), every second counts, no matter the hour or the day. That is why HSHS St. John’s Hospital partnered with Advanced ICU Care® (AICU) to offer a tele-ICU program that provides around the clock monitoring by highly trained critical care physicians and nurses to provide an extra layer of support – at no extra cost to patients.

AICU care centers are staffed by fellowship-trained intensivist physicians; critical care advanced practice providers (NPs or PAs); CCRN-certified critical care nurses and health care assistants. All providers are licensed in the state of Illinois and are credentialed and privileged at the hospital. When your doctor cannot be present, tele-ICU critical care physicians are there using special computer technology to monitor your condition.
Tele-ICU specialists work alongside your bedside team
Your doctor will still care for you. AICU clinicians monitor certain vital signs and laboratory results. Electronic alerts notify the team if a situation arises that requires attention. Videoconferencing enables tele-ICU clinicians to see and communicate directly with bedside clinicians, patients and families, when needed.
