Patient instructions

For patients who are undergoing a test or procedure at Prairie Heart Institute at HSHS St. John's Hospital 
  • You will receive a call from St. John's admitting department before your test or procedure to obtain registration information and review your pre-admission testing instructions. If you would prefer, you can pre-register online. 
  • If you have questions about what you can eat or drink before your test/procedure, or what medications you should take, please contact your doctor's office directly.
  • On the day of your test or procedure, enter Prairie Heart Institute off Mason Street. Valet parking is available, or you may park in the Mason Street Ramp and enter Prairie Heart Institute through the main entrance off Mason Street or via the skywalk located on the 3rd floor of the ramp.
  • Admitting staff members will confirm insurance information. You may be asked to complete a medical history form and sign papers related to consent to treatment and insurance billing. Please bring your insurance card, a photo ID and a list of your medications and any allergies.
  • If you have a advance directive (living will or power of attorney), please bring that with you as well.
  • Leave all valuables at home or with a family member.
  • Dress in comfortable clothing and shoes.
  • If you have special needs related to a disability, hearing disorder or if you need an interpreter, please call (217) 544-6464, ext. 45000 before you come to the hospital.
  • Once registration is complete, you will be directed to the department for your test. If you have any questions, please call the admitting department at (217) 535-3797.
