HSHS St. John's Hospital


HSHS St. John’s Hospital is looking to commission an artist who will create a work of art depicting the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis caring for victims of the 1908 Race Riot, one of the most violent riots against blacks in American history.

The American Hospital Association is recognizing Springfield’s two nonprofit hospitals for their collaborative effort to improve community health in Enos Park, a low-income neighborhood located between the hospitals.

After a blessing today, the Prairie Heart Institute at HSHS St. John’s Hospital will open its new cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU) on Monday, July 16. Colleagues and visitors were given tours of the new space that will be dedicated to helping cardiac patients recover after open heart, cardiovascular, vascular and thoracic surgeries. 

On July 21, 17 individuals from the Springfield area, including eight RNs from HSHS St. John’s Hospital, will travel to southeast Haiti for a week-long medical mission trip in conjunction with Haitian Christian Outreach (HCO).


On Wednesday at 8 p.m., the installation of the HSHS St. John’s Hospital sky bridge over Ninth Street will begin. Once complete, the sky bridge will connect HSHS St. John’s Children’s Hospital to the new outpatient center for women and children that will house providers from SIU Medicine, HSHS Medical Group and St. John’s Hospital.


Prevent Child Abuse Illinois, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and HSHS St. John’s Children’s Hospital will commemorate the start of April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month at a joint press conference at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3 at the St. John’s Pavilion, 301 N. 8th St., Springfield.
