HSHS St. John’s Hospital Unveils Award-Winning Photography in Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit

HSHS St. John’s Hospital unveiled 18 photographs, chosen from a colleague call for photography photo contest, in the hallway outside the renovated cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU) on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 2 p.m.

This calming and inspiring photography will help enhance the healing environment. Patients recover in the CVICU after open heart, cardiovascular, vascular and thoracic surgeries. The $7.9 million renovation, completed in July 2018, added larger rooms that include showers, reclining chairs, televisions, storage space for personal belongings and large windows for access to natural light.

A reception was held in the hallway outside of the CVICU to celebrate the photographers who were chosen. Hospital colleagues and leadership were in attendance.

The photographs, taken by HSHS colleagues, were chosen by a panel of colleagues, caregivers and representatives from the St. John’s Foundation’s medical arts committee. More than 150 photographs were submitted for the contest.

“It’s an honor to showcase the talent of our colleagues in a meaningful way for patients and their families,” said Kristin Doster, executive vice president of Prairie Heart Institute at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. “These photos add a personal touch to the beautifully remodeled CVICU.”

The winners and names of their photographs are:
