HSHS St. John’s Hospital to Hold Blood Drive for Colleagues

To help ease the impact COVID-19 has on the local blood supply, HSHS St. John’s Hospital is holding a blood drive for its colleagues on campus on Friday, March 20 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The Central Illinois Community Blood Center will park its bloodmobile outside main entrance to the hospital. Colleagues can schedule a time or simply walk over and donate. A maximum of three colleagues can donate at one time.

“There is no known risk to the safety of the nation’s blood supply except for lack of donations,” said Stephanie Tharp, MT (ASCP), Division Director of Hospital Laboratory Services for HSHS Illinois hospitals. “There are no reports of spread of this respiratory virus by blood transfusion. Giving blood is critical to ensure an adequate supply to meet patient needs.”

The public is encouraged to visit blood.center.org or contact the Central Illinois Community Blood Center directly to learn more about public donation opportunities.
