Streamlining emergency care
In an emergency, seconds matter. That's why we provide real time medical oversight and direction to paramedics when they're in the field treating patients and can activate special alert processes for heart attack and stroke patients.
Prairie Heart Institute at St. John’s Hospital created the STAT Heart Program to provide patients with the quickest access to angioplasty, a non-surgical procedure to treat diseased arteries. STAT Heart is a partnership with community hospital emergency rooms and ground and air transport. The process to move patients efficiently from a community hospital or St. John's Emergency Room to the Cath Lab is often referred to as door-to-balloon time.
At St. John’s Hospital, our current average door-to-balloon time is 50 minutes, which is almost twice as fast as the door-to-balloon time goal of 90 minutes or less recommended by the American Heart Association. St. John’s is consistently rated as one of the best hospitals in the nation on this measure of quality. A recent survey of more than 200 heart hospitals across the country ranked St. John’s in the top 1% for door-to-balloon time performance.
St. John’s is also received the Gold Seal of Approval for Primary Stroke Centers by The Joint Commission for complying with demonstrated standards that have been proven to improve outcomes for patients.
One way to maintain your health is to have a primary care physician. Your doctor knows you and your medical history, so you get the right preventive care, treatment and follow-up care when you need it.
