Torch Award Winners
  • Torch Award winners believe in our Core Values

    Respect | Care | Competence | Joy

Each year St. John's Hospital honors our colleagues who celebrate service anniversaries of five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 or more years with a special dinner. At the dinner we also honor four colleagues who are celebrating service anniversaries of at least 25 years with a special Torch Award in the categories of Respect, Care, Competence and Joy. As we celebrate years of service, it's important to be reminded of the importance of our values and how they support our healing ministry.

Respect is the art of acknowledging that every human being deserves to be treated with dignity and grace. Respect is about behaving appropriately in all situations and considering the viewpoint of others before acting. Not just hearing others, but actively listening, is a vital component of Respect.

It is her day-to-day commitment to displaying these qualities that have earned Ann Derrick the 2013 Torch Award for Respect.

Care is vital to the St. John’s Hospital mission. It’s empathy in its most tangible and relatable form, a dedication to our patients and their families, our colleagues and our community. Care is going above and beyond to provide excellent patient service and to foster a sense of morale.

Because she shows a never-ending commitment to these qualities, we’re proud to honor Mary Perlman with the 2013 Torch Award for Care.

Competence is more than just doing a job. It is an everyday dedication to finding creative solutions, encouraging and mentoring others, learning and adapting to new innovations, and setting an example of professionalism and excellence.

Claire Call embodies these qualities, which makes here the perfect choice for the 2013 Torch Award for Competence.

Joy is a spirit of happiness and the ability to share that happiness with others. It is the ability to brighten the lives of others, even when circumstances are difficult, rather than allowing them to bring you down.

Her ability to bring joy into the lives of others makes us proud to honor Rose LoGrasso with the 2013 Torch Award for Joy.
